Smart Battery System Applied to a Hybrid Electric Vehicle

The use of green energy is becoming increasingly more important in today’s world. Therefore, electric vehicles are currently the best choice for the environment in terms of public and personal transportation. Because of its high energy and current density, lithium-ion batteries are widely used in electric vehicles. Unfortunately, lithium-ion batteries can be dangerous if they are not operated within their Safety Operation Area (SOA). Therefore, a battery management system (BMS) must be used in every lithium-ion battery, especially for those used in electric vehicles. In this work, the battery is evaluated by calculating the state of charge, state of life, charging and discharging control and by cell balancing algorithm. High precision estimation can maintain the battery cells working in a good situation and extend the service life of the battery pack, reducing the cost of use indirectly. This is meaningful for Li-ion battery’s industrial application.

Electronic Voting Machine with Facial Recognition and Fingerprint Sensors

In this project, an attempt has been made to the development of an authenticated electronic voting system using fingerprint and facial images. The two-fold authentication system improves the security of the voting process and reduces the chances of a corrupt election process. The facial recognition process utilizes the Local Binary Pattern Histogram and Support Vector Machine process to scan, store and recognize faces efficiently. The fingerprint recognition involves the capturing of multiple 2D images and High Sensitive Pixel Amplifier to improve the quality of those images to scan the fingerprint to provide the primary form of authentication. Visual Basic is used to develop a very easy to use User Interface that enables an easy voting process. A private server is used to store both the user data and the election results separately. This reduces the chances of external manipulation of the election results.

Load Cell based Fuel Level Measurement using Arduino Uno Microcontroller

The increasing corruption in fuel filling process as well as the increasing vehicle theft has become a big deal to the society. Thus, this paper has proposed a product that serves beneficiary to both these issues. The corruption in fuel filling process is rectified through fuel level measurement using load cell. Though there are a numerous methods to measure the fuel level including those like mechanical float, optical sensors, ultrasonic etc., the accuracy in measurement is met by the use of load cell involving Arduino uno microcontroller. Here the precision in measurement is made even in milliliter of added fuel. The measured output is sent via the global system for mobile communication (GSM) technology to the user mobile, so that verifiable record can be created. Thus, a permanent record of filled fuel can be maintained. This would help the owners of transportation network companies to maintain individual record of their vehicles that are run by their paid drivers. Apart from the level measurement, vehicle theft is overcome by the Global positioning system (GPS) technology. The GPS system fitted to the vehicle would share the accurate location of the vehicle to the registered user. In case of theft the location of the filling station along with the measured fuel is sent to the registered network through the GSM technology. Thus the paper produces a complete design of the fuel cell that is implemented in a GPS and GSM enabled vehicle.

Theft Detection using Internet of Things in Automated Toll Plaza

Time is the most precious thing in this world, automation of toll plaza could be one of the best possible ways to save it. Automated toll plaza system using Radio Frequency Identification emerges as a converging technology where time and efficiency are matters of priority in toll collection systems of present day. Whenever the vehicle moves through the toll gate on any road, it is indicated on the RFID reader that the vehicle has crossed the clearing. The reader reads the information available in the RFID tag attached to the vehicle. Based on this information the controller first checks the criminal database for any sorts of complaints filed on the particular vehicle. If the data in the criminal database matches with the vehicle ID obtained over RFID then both the gates of the toll booth will be locked and a message regarding the identification of the stolen vehicle would be sent to the nearby police station. If there is no complaint on the particular vehicle ID then the transaction takes place through a centralized database and the payment receipt of the successful transaction is intimated to the user’s mobile through Way to SMS. The need for manual toll based systems can be completely eradicated using this method. By implementing this system there would be a high possibility to reduce the number of vehicle thefts. Also this would help to curtail the thieves from escaping to other places with the stolen vehicle. It would greatly help the cops to catch the thieves as the area to look for them would be minimized.

Character Recognition

The purpose of this research is to create a system that takes handwritten as well as printed English characters and numerals as input, process the character, train the k space nearest neighbor algorithm, recognize the pattern and modify the character to a beautified version of the input. This research is aimed at developing software, which will be helpful in recognizing characters of English language. This research is restricted to English characters and numerals only. It is also helpful in recognizing special characters. It can be further developed to recognize the characters of different languages. One of the primary means by which computers are endowed with humanlike abilities is through the use of Machine Learning. Machine Learning allows the system to be more efficient and accurate with successive iteration. Pattern recognition is perhaps the most common problem that can be solved using machine learning approach. The K space nearest neighbor algorithm is one of the most efficient machine learning algorithm that can be used for pattern recognition problem and works well with limited data for learning. The process followed consist of following steps: Image Input, Preprocessing, Segmentation, Feature Extraction and Classification. A kNN trained for classification is designed to take input samples and classify them into groups or clusters. These groups may be fuzzy, without clearly defined boundaries. This project concerns detecting printed and handwritten characters and wishes to improve upon previous character recognition systems. The developed system performed as per the expectations successfully identifying multiple characters in a single row and worked well with handwritten characters as test data even when no handwritten character data was provided in training set.

Traditionally electrical appliances in a home are controlled via switches that regulates the electricity to the devices. As the world gets more and more technologically advanced, we find new technology coming deeper and deeper into our personal lives even at home. Internet of Things (IoT) conceptualizes the idea of remotely conecting and monitoring real world objects (things) through the Internet. When it comes to our house, this concept can be aptly incorporated to make it smarter, safer and automated. This Advance IoT based home automation paper focuses on building a smart wireless home automation system, in which home appliances can be accessed using mobile app/website through internet connectivity. This system can sends alerts to the owner by using Internet in case of any trespass and raises an alarm optionally. Besides, the same can also be utilized for home automation by making use of the same set of sensors. The advantage obtained by preferring this system over the similar kinds of existing systems is that the alerts and the status sent by the Wi-Fi connected microcontroller managed system can be received by the user on his phone from any distance irrespective of whether his mobile phone is connected to the internet. Apart from these features, this system also allows to check the appliance history and has many more features like recursive mode in home appliance. The microcontroller used in the current prototype is the At-mega 2560 (Arduino Mega board) with an external Wi-Fi Card ESP8266 making use of which all the electrical appliances inside the home can be controlled and managed.
