Lead poisoning is also called as plumbism, saturnism or painter’s colic. Lead poisoning occurs when blood lead levels are equal to or more than 10 micrograms per decilitre. The world health organization says 120 million people are overexposed to lead and 99% of the most serious cases are in the developing world. The population of developing nations like India is particularly more susceptible to lead poisoning because of the problem of environmental contamination. Scientific studies have been conducted all over the world including India to determine the extent of knowledge on lead poisoning, but the available data do not reflect a true scenario about the knowledge of lead poisoning among the general public. The greatest risk of injury from lead poisoning is to children. Prevention remains the best option for reducing childhood lead exposure, however knowledge, attitude and practice to lead exposure in many developing countries are not known. Thus the investigator felt the need to conduct a study to assess the knowledge of lead poisoning among the youngsters and educate them regarding the symptoms and prevention of lead poisoning as they are the glue that holds the country together and spread the knowledge gained far and wide through peer group influence.

Led Curing Unit in Orthodontics -A Review

Introduction of light-cured adhesives has given a great contribution and has been the greatest advances in the field of orthodontics. The most popular orthodontic adhesive is the light-cure composite resin. These adhesives have provided the practitioner the luxury of unlimited curing time. They have reduced the risk of contamination, easier removal of excess peripheral adhesive, and increased working time to position the brackets accurately on the teeth. Compared with the halogen curing system, LED lights can achieve clinical bonding success with shorter curing time. Curing-light manufacturers claim that by increasing the light intensity, less curing time will be required to reach adequate bond strengths.

Psycho Social Problems of Obesity among School Children in Madurai City

Obesity is increasing at an alarming rate throughout the world. Today it is estimated that there are more than 300 million obese people world-wide. Obesity is a condition of excess body fat often associated with a large number of debilitating and life-threatening disorders. It is still a matter of debate as to how to define obesity in young people. Overweight children have an increased risk of being overweight as adults. Genetics, behaviour, and family environment play a role in childhood overweight. Childhood overweight increases the risk for certain medical and psychological conditions. Encourage overweight children to expand high energy activity, minimize low energy activity (screen watching), and develop healthful eating habits. Breastfeeding is protective against obesity. Diet restriction is not recommended in very young children. Children are to be watched for gain in height rather than reduction in weight. Weight reduction of less than 10% is a normal variation, not significant in obesity.
